Abstract

The effect of low concentration SO2 (0.01ppm) in the air on the degradation of a La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3(LSCF) cathode of solid oxide fuel cell was investigated as a function of temperature and poisoning time. The performance degradation of LSCF cathode depends on the operating temperature. At 923 K, rapid degradation is observed due to the sulfur deposited at the whole surface of LSCF particles which inhibits oxygen reduction reaction process. In contrast, for 1023 K, the SrSO4 formation concentrates at some localized parts of the LSCF surface. As a result, slow degradation was observed over period of poisoning time.
