Evaluation and development of the distance measurement using stereo vision for vehicle

Abstract

We are developing an image sensing technology to minimize an in-vehicle stereo camera which used for distance measurement of the safety driving support system by shortening the baseline length. The distance measurement accuracy decreases because of shortening the baseline length. Therefore, we have improved the stereo corresponding method to introduce "Phase-Only Correlation (POC)" that converting the brightness change into the shape of waves and calculating the disparity from the phase difference. We can suppress the error margin to the objective level even if the baseline length is shortened to 12m, and we can confirm the availability of POC in the in-vehicle environment.
