Estimation of mechanical erosion at nozzle inlet by multiphase flow simulation in solid rocket motor considering aluminum droplets and alumina mist

Abstract

One of the problem of Solid Rocket Motor is nozzle inlet erosion that is occurred by the alumina cap collision with inlet wall. Effect of alumina mist on alumina cap and mechanical erosion is studied. To simulate this problem, Eulerian-Laglangian coupling method is employed. Eulerian method in calculating gas and alumina mist behaviour, and Laglangian method in calculating aluminum droplet and alumina cap behaviour.
