Enhanced optical second harmonic generation of polymer hybrid nanoassemblies using gold nanoparticle

Abstract

Amphiphilic copolymers of N-dodecylacrylamide (DDA) with nonlinear optical (NLO) active molecule (DR) (p(DDA/DR)) were synthesized. Hetero-deposited polymer nanosheets consisting of p(DDA/DR) and NLO non-active pDDA were prepared by the alternate deposition with Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The second harmonic generation (SHG) was investigated using Maker-fringe method. The hetero-deposited polymer nanosheets were hybridized with gold nanoparticle through immersion method and its SH light intensity at 532nm was enhanced by the coupling of surface plasmon resonance. The multiple deposition processes were carried out to obtain multilayer structure of polymer hybrid nanoassemblies comprising of pDDA, p(DDA/DR) and gold nanoparticle layers. The SH light intensity was also enhanced by multilayer formation of polymer hybrid nanoassemblies.
