Abstract
A novel mechanism for the Gilbert damping in normal-metal-ferromagnet hybrids was proposed. A spin-pump effect enhanced the Gilbert damping constant in the thin ferromagnetic films with normal metal buffer layers. The damping was found to be significant for transition metal films thinner than about 10 nm.
