Electro-optic measurement in glass ceramics with highly oriented crystalline layers

Abstract

Liner electro-optic (EO) constants r13 and r33, have been investigated in 30BaO-20TiO2-50SiO2 glass ceramics with oriented crystalline layers using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer at 0.633m wavelength. The EO constants have been measured at 10-1000Hz frequency of the applied voltage, and typical values of r13 and r33 at 100Hz are 3.15±0.04 and 1.00±0.02 pm/V, respectively. It has been found that these values are approximately 58-64 in r13 and 59 in r33 compared with those in fresnoite single crystals.
