Electrical and magnetic properties of new Yb-based compound YbPd 5Al2

We succeeded in growing a single crystal of YbPd5Al2 with the tetragonal structure. The temperature dependence of electrical resistivity and a small value of the coefficient A in the Fermi liquid relation ρ = ρ0 + AT2 suggest that the 4 f -electrons are well localized. A magnetic ordering was found at To = 0.19 K in the specific heat measurement. On the other hand, the magnetic entropy exhibits only 0.5R ln 2 at To, and the specific heat shows a long tail above To.
