Abstract
Study of low-temperature lattice instabilities and superconductivity in Th-doped La2-xBaxCuO4, La2-y-xThyBaxCuO4, revealed that a low-temperature tetragonal (TLT) phase and sharp suppression of Tc are most prominent at x - y ≊ 0.125, instead of x ≊ 0.125. Thefore, the anomalous low-temperature behavior is essentially controlled by the carrier concentration, rather than local ionic forces.
