Effects of shear flow on the structure of the lamellar phase formed in nonionic surfactant-water system

Abstract

Small-angle neutron scattering has been measured on the lamellar phase formed in a nonionic surfactant (C16E7)-water system under shear flow at shear rates in the range 10-3-102 s-1. From the dependence of the peak position and the peak intensity on the shear rate it has been suggested that the lamellar domain is disrupted into small fragments at shear rates about 0.1∼1 s-1 and that the original microstructure is reconstructed at higher shear rates.
