Abstract
In soybean nodules, the ATP level and ATP/ADP ratio decreased significantly upon the supply of nitrate. Inhibition of nitrogen fixation by nitrate was caused by a decrease in oxidative phosphorylation attributable to the accumulation of nitrosylleghemoglobin in the presence of nitrate. The synthesis of other nucleotides and UDP-sugar was also affected.
