Effects of Er2O3 Addition on Magnetic Properties of MnZn Ferrite Poly Crystals

The effects of Er2O3 adition on magnetic properties of Mn0.61Zn0.32Fe2.07O4 poly crystals made by sintering the powders prepared by a hydrothermal process were studied. When Er2O3 is added in the composition range of 0.01-0.1 mol% to the MnZn ferrite, the relative permeability(μr') at frequency range below 1MHz and the coercive force(Hc) are improved by Er2O3 addition. Sturation magnetic flux densities(Bs) are increased with increasing Er2O3 content below 0.05mol% and then decreased with further increasing of Er2O3 content. The effects of Er2O3 addition are closely related to the dissolution of Er into the Mn-Zn ferrite. The Mn-7n ferrite containing Er2O3 is expected to be useful as the magnetic head material for high density recording.
