Effective refractive index of 3D photonic crystals at photonic bandgap

Abstract

We numerically evaluate effective refractive index of a 3D photonic crystal at full photonic bandgap. The typical value is 0.001. The 3D photonic crystal at bandgap is characterized as a material of small refractive index.
