Effect of transverse cracks on lamb wave velocity in CFRP cross-ply laminates

Abstract

The stiffness and velocity of lowest order symmetric (S0) mode for CFRP cross-ply laminates with various transverse crack densities were measured. Linear AE source locations were conducted on the damaged specimen and the effect of reduction of S0 mode velocity on the accuracy of source location was investigated. Results indicated that a combination of active and passive sensing was found to be effective in precise evaluation of transverse cracks.
