Effect of right heart assist circulation using vibrating flow pump (VFP)

In order to determine the effect of the oscillated blood flow on pulmonary circulation, partial right heart bypass using the VFP was performed in five adult goats. Time series data of the pulmonary arterial flow and pulmonary arterial pressure recorded to estimate the effect of oscillated blood flow on the pulmonary circulation. Pulmonary arterial resistance (PAR) and pulmonary arterial characteristic impedance (PACI) were nut significantly changed. But during 30 Hz flow, PAR and PACI were slightly increased. This result suggests that frequency of blood flow affects characteristics of pulmonary circulation.
