Abstract
Itinerant 5f-electron antiferromagnet UNiAl (TN = 19.3 K) undergoes a metamagnetic transition in fields (Bc ≈ 11 T) applied along the c-axis of the hexagonal ZrNiAl-type structure. The same structure is preserved in the UNi1-xPdxAl solid solutions x ≤ 0.4 characterized by isotropic lattice expansion with increasing x. The gradual increase of Bc and TN due to the Pd doping can be tentatively attributed to enhancement of antiferromagnetic exchange interactions.
