Effect of hydrogen on the magnetism and its solubility in ferromagnetic nickel

Abstract

The effect of hydrogen on the magnetism in both cluster and bulk material of ferromagnetic metal nickel was investigated using first-principles calculations. It is found that the interaction of H atoms with the host atoms decreases the exchange interaction and suppresses magnetism. Thermodynamic analysis has also been made for the temperature and magnetization dependency of hydrogen solubility near the Curie point in bulk nickel using the extended higher order regular solution model.
