Effect of high magnetic fields on fractal growth of lead metal-leaves

Growth morphology of lead metal-leaves in high magnetic fields up to 8 T was observed to investigate the anisotropic diffusion-limited aggregation with lateral drifts in a real physical system. The lead metal-leaves were grown by electrodeless deposition. The growth morphology drastically changed from a typical dendrite without magnetic fields into a dense asymmetric dendrite at 8 T, in which side branches developed on one side of each main branch. A fractal dimension of the lead metal-leaf increased with increasing magnetic field from 1.59 at zero field to 1.66 at 8 T.
