Dynamic properties of concentrated LiNO3-glycerol solutions

The quasielastic neutron scattering of concentrated solutions of LiNO3 in glycerol has been measured as a function of composition and temperature. LiNO3 is very soluble (more than 30 mol%) in the solvent and the resulting concentrated solutions become highly viscous and easy to supercool. The quasielastic neutron scattering experiments were carried out for 1-5 mol% LiNO3 solutions. From the neutron scattering cross sections the observed spectra are assigned to the individual hydrogen motions in glycerol. The observed results indicate formation of network liquids incorporated with ions. It is also shown that the ion dynamics is strongly coupled with the molecular motion of the solvent.
