Distinguishing transition and pure bend losses in holey fibers

Abstract

The transition and pure bend losses in holey fibers were distinguished using an experiment. The relative contributions of transition and pure bend losses in holey fibers were found to be dependent on the angular orientation of the bend. A model was developed that preserved the exact refractive index profile and could be used to model the bend loss in any microstructured fiber.
