Diarylethene nanorods: Preparation, crystal structure, and photochromic properties

    Abstract

    Diarylethene nanorods have been fabricated through the reprecipitation method by using cis-1,2-dicyano-1,2-bis(2,4,5- trimethyl-3-thienyl)ethene (CMTE), and their crystal structure and photochromic properties have been investigated. Through the addition of a surfactant, CMTE formed nanorods during the reprecipitation process. The crystal structure of the CMTE nanorods was investigated as well as that of the bulk crystals. In addition, the CMTE nanorods exhibited photochromism.
