Abstract
Single longitudinal mode characteristics of DFB laser diodes are described in the context of 1. 5 mu m F-400 M use. Side mode suppression is related to inter-mode loss difference as the principal mode stability criterion. Using this criterion, the relation of mode stability to efficiency and threshold current is shown for the main device structures. Devices fabricated based on the design parameters exhibited an output of 27 mw at 50 degree C with a side mode suppresson ratio over 30 db, thus satisfying design requirements.
