Development of quantum efficiency simulator for phosphors and its application to Eu2+-doped SrS

Abstract

Phosphor, a light emitting inorganic material, is an important for light emitting devices. Phosphors have been developed by trial-and-error methods. To assist the development of the Eu2+-doped phosphors, we developed a calculation method of quantum efficiency. We applied the novel method to the Eu2+-doped SrS. The calculated efficiency dramatically depended on the presence of structural defects. To investigate the detail of this point, we also calculated excited energy distributions in phosphor crystals: structural defect created impurity level and it trapped excited electrons and holes.
