Development of novel oligothiophenes modified with the triphenylamine group as a donor unit and the oxadiazole group as an acceptor unit and their application to OLED devices

Abstract

We synthesized novel cyclopentane-fused oligothiophenes modified with the triphenylamine group as a donor unit and the oxadiazole group as an acceptor unit. Electronic absorption positions due to the oligothiophenes of CP6T and CP6T-Tpa are almost the same in the solution state and thin film state. However, the absorption bands of CP6T-Oxz and Tpa-CP6T-Oxz are markedly red-shifted, indicating that the oxadiazole group well conjugates with the oligtohiophene. An organic electroluminescence device with a structure of indium-tin-oxide(ITO)/ Tpa-CP6T-Oxz layer/LiF/Al exhibits orange emission with a maximum luminance of 80 cd/m2 at 8.0 V. The optimization of the device is now under way.
