Development of magnetic correlations around the transition temperatures in ErB2C2

Abstract

Neutron diffraction experiments were performed for the development of magnetic correlations around the transition temperatures in ErBr 2C2. The single crystal for the experiments was grown by the Czochralski method with a tri-arc furnace from the mixtures of 99.9% pure Er, 99.5% enriched 11B and 99.999% pure C. Magnetic scattering at (h, 0.113, 0) through the satellite peak positions was shown. A magnetic short-range ordering was found in ErB2C2 near the transition temperatures by neutron diffraction experiments, which is the origin of anomalies in magnetization.
