Carbon coatings draw strong interest as a first wall material. In this study, we developed a technique for thick carbon coatings with a high deposition rate. A vacuum-arc deposition technique was applied to carbon coatings. The developed vacuum-arc deposition gun is handy and can be used as an in-situ coating gun in the fusion devices. The deposition of adherent carbon films thicker than 350 μm was realized onto molybdenum substrates at 1100 K by this method.
