Development of a simulator for evaluating the dynamic behavior of an integrated renewable energy system with geothermal heat pump

Abstract

We have been developing a simulator for evaluating the dynamic behavior of integrated renewable energy systems (IRES), which consists of Wind Turbine, Photovoltaic, Lead-Acid Battery, etc.. Geothermal Heat Pumps (GeoHP), also known as Ground-Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) or GroundCoupled Heat Pumps (GCHP), is included in the simulator, because GeoHP can be utility heating source in IRES. The GeoHP model is based on the equation for convection and diffusion, and Hot Water Tank is installed as a buffer to regulate the difference between supply and demand in heating phase. We have confirmed the feasibility of each element by using real data as much as possible, and constructed IRES simulator that can calculate energy flow, balance, etc., under various conditions. In this paper, we examine the dynamic behavior of the IRES, and show that the combination of GeoHP with IRES is effective if the system is controlled considering the fluctuation of power resources and demands.
