title = "Development of a design method for base-isolated houses with a variable oil damper by an optimum design method",
abstract = "Base-isolated detached houses incorporated with the new uni-flow type variable oil damper which can vary its damping performance according to the displacement are considered. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, the dynamic experiment was carried out as a feasibility study of the uni-flow type variable oil damper. The test result shows that it can be realized. To evaluate the performance of the variable oil damper, analytical studies were conducted. Depending on the amplitude of earthquakes, three stages of design criteria are established. The optimum design method is used to design the variable oil damper and to satisfy the design criteria. The analysis result shows that the variable oil damper can satisfy all the design criteria, whereas the ordinary oil damper cannot.",
