Abstract

This paper reports the application of Laser Speckle Photography to the determination of local Young's moduli and their distribution in sintered compacts. The specimens used were porous sintered Cu, sintered WC-Co and hot pressed silicon nitride (Si//3N//4) ceramics. Young's modulus distribution for porous Cu compacts correspond to the porosity distribution. Young's modulus of WC-Co decreases with increasing Co content. An anisotropy in Young's modulus was observed in hot pressed silicon nitride.
