Determination of thermal degradation of heated polyvinyl chloride using diffracted SH ultrasonic waves

Abstract

Thermal degradation of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds heated in air was determined by analyses of diffracted SH ultrasonic waves. Evaporation of plasticizers from PVC compounds due to thermal decomposition was evaluated by examining the the receiving wave amplitude. Thermal chain scission of PVC compounds seems to affect the increase of the integrated absolute value of wave amplitudes and the advance of phase shift with specific frequencies.
