Abstract
Chaperonin GroEL undergoes a large conformational change in response to ATP. We prepared new mutant GroELs, CA-R231C and CA-K311C+L314C, where cystein residues exist around the entrance the cavity. Fluorescent units were introduced to the mutants through the reaction of the thiol of cystein group with maleimide group of the fluorescent molecule. The optical properties of thus modified GroELs will be reported.
