Abstract
A novel combined system of EMAT (Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer) and EC (Eddy Current) probe is proposed as a multi-sensor with simple structure that combines the advantages carried by ultrasonic testing (UT) and eddy current testing (ECT). It consists of transmitting coil, receiving coil and permanent magnet, and is connected to pulse generator/receiver. The structure and dimension of the probe was determined by numerical analysis. Acoustic wave and eddy current signals by the present probe were experimentally observed, and crack detection based on the signals was discussed, focusing on complementariness between UT and ECT.
