Dephosphorization and desulfurization equilibria between liquid iron containing Cr and BaO-Cr2O3-FetO slags

Abstract

Phosphorus and sulfur distribution between MgO-saturated BaO-Cr2O3-FetO (-BaF2) slags and liquid iron containing Cr ([%Cr]=0-16) has been measured in the temperature range from 1,550 to 1,650°C. The refining limit of dephosphorization in steel containing Cr and hot metal is discussed by using the values for phosphate capacity CP(=(%P)/[aPMULaO5/2]). Thermodynamic analysis indicates that the phosphorus partition ratio increases with carbon up to a critical value and decreases beyond that.
