Czochralski growth and scintillation properties of Ce: (Gd, Y,Lu) 3 (Al,Ga)5O12 single crystals

Abstract

1-inch size Ce1%: Gd2Lu1Al2Ga 3O12, Gd1Lu2Al2Ga 3O12, Gd1Y2Al1.5Ga 3.5O12 and Lu2Y1Al 2Ga3O12 were grown by the Czhocralski (Cz) method. The EPMA techniques is employed to check their chemical composition. Luminescence and scintillation properties were also evaluated. The Ce1%: Gd 1Y2Al2Ga3O12 sample showed the highest light yield of around 40 000 photon/MeV. The scintillation decay time was 46.6 ns(63%) and 157 ns(37%).
