Crystal structure and magnetic properties of U2Co17-xSix single crystals

Abstract

We studied the crystal structure and magnetic properties of the U2Co17-xSix system. The homogeneity range of U2Co17-xSix extends from x=1.0 to 3.4. The variation of the magnetic properties within the homogeneity range was studied on single-crystalline samples grown by the Czochralski method in a tetra-arc furnace. Results on magnetic anisotropy point to a magnetic state of U up to x=3.0.
