Crystal growth of ammonium chloride in magnetic levitation conditions

Abstract

A gradient strong magnetic field was applied to levitate an ammonium chloride solution droplet, and the behavior of crystal nucleation and growth in the droplet was investigated. Moreover, the gradient strong magnetic field was applied to control the crystal position in the solution, and the `levitating' crystal growth in the solution was succeeded without any contacts with the container walls and the solution surface.
