N2 - A heat resistant superalloy, constituting the heat exchanger of a high temperature gas cooled reactor (HTGR), will be corroded by impurities contained in the coolant helium gas. One side of Inconel 617 was coated with Si or SiO//x by reactive rf magnetron sputtering. Corrosion tests were conducted for 200 hours at 900 degree and 1000 degree C. The SiO//2 coating suppressed the development of oxidation.
