Abstract
The control of quantum well (QW) states on the vacuum boundary condition in Ag/Fe(100) and Au/Fe(100) was studied. It was shown that the surface of the Fe(100) was characterized by a strong surface state, which appeared at ∼0.2 eV below Fermi level in one-photon photoemission spectra. The energy shift and broadening of the QW states were observed with the decreasing of the vacuum level by evaporating Cs atoms. Analysis shows that with the reduction of the vacuum level by 1.4 eV in Au/Fe(100), sharp QW states were also observed.
