Abstract

The discrimination of timbre of complex tones consisting of only higher harmonics was investigated. Higher harmonics were perceived based on band analysis when a difference in timbre is detected. The difference limens for timbre were estimated by using two models. Estimation show that timbre may be described to some extent by observing the output of a bandpass filter bank.
