Compression of scene images by region segmentation and text detection

Abstract

In order to transfer large amount of data such as images when the networks are seriously damaged, an efficient compression technique is necessary. The aim of this study is to develop an image compression method combining image processing and image recognition techniques. An image processing technique is used for reducing the amount of image data. An image recognition technique is used for detecting a region which is important for humans.
