Abstract

Combustion in small-scale quartz channel was studied for the future application to the MEMS power generators. Methane/air mixture was supplied to the U-shaped channel of 2 mm in channel ID and 70 mm in its length that is made of quartz glass tube. The present small-scale channel was preheated by electric hot wire to model the heat recirculation-type burners that were frequently used in small-scale combustion device. By preheating the channel up to the temperature levels from 900 to 1000 K, the equivalence ratio from 0.2:1, at least, 1.5:1 of the methane/air mixture was combustible under the mixture mean flow velocity inside the channel of 40 cm/sec.
