Abstract

We find that we can use a 'squeezed-vacuum' state conceived in quantum optics to give the ground-state wave function for the bilayer quantum Hall system at the total Landau-level filling of ν = 1/m (m: odd integer). This is derived in the boson approximation, where a particle-hole pair creation across the symmetric-antisymmetric gap, ΔSAS, is regarded as a boson. The degree of squeezing is given as a function of the layer separation and ΔSAS.
