Abstract
The Bangladesh Observer newspaper was examined for the five years 1990-94 for reports of tornadoes in Bangladesh. There were 44 tornadoes and 281 deaths from tornadoes during this period. Over half of reported tornadoes caused deaths with an average 6.4 deaths per reported tornado. Annual tornado frequency was about 5.5 per 10,000 sq. mi. in central Bangladesh, about the same as in the central United States. Tornado frequency peaks in the April-May pre-monsoon season and daily frequency peaks in the evening.
