Choroidal blood flow following photodynamic therapy measured by laser speckle flowgraphy

Abstract

Purpose: To report changes in the choroidal blood flow following photodynamic therapy for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). Cases and Method: This study was made on 6 eyes of 6 males who were diagnosed with PCV based on findings by indocyanine green angiography. The age ranged from 62 to 83 years, average 74 years. Choroidal blood flow was measured by laser speckle flowgraphy before and one week after photodynamic therapy. Results: Choroidal blood flow decreased by 44.3±33.1% at the site of PCV and by 40.2±25.5% in the unaffected but irradiated area after treatment. The decreases were significant (p=0.028, p=0.028). Conclusion: Choroidal blood decreased significantly in the treated area including the site of PCV and its surroundings one week after photodynamic therapy.
