Chiral electrode behavior of magnetoelectrodeposited silver films

Abstract

Chiral conducting polymer films by magneto-electropolymerization (MEP) was prepared and found that the MEP polyaniline films exhibited chiral electrode behavior for the oxidation of ascorbic acid. Silver metal films by magneto-electrodeposition (MED) was also prepared and examined its chiral electrode properties for L-and D-glucoses. Silver electrodeposition was conducted at the constant potential of 100 mV in a 50mM AgNO3aqueous solution containing 0.1 M NaClO4 as a supporting electrolyte. MED experiments were conducted in a cryocooled superconducting magnet and the temperature within the magnet bore was controlled at 25°Cby circulating thermo-regulated water. The MED Ag films were used as modified electrodes, and their chiral properties were examined by measuring the voltammograms of 20mM L- and D-glucoses in a 0.1 M NaOH aqueous solution. The result indicates that the magnetic field increases the electrodeposition rate, even though the applied field was perpendicular to the electrode surface.
