Charge transfer luminescence in Yb3+-containing compounds

Abstract

The characteristics of charge transfer transition of Yb3+ in selected compounds and complexes are reviewed. Systematic comparison of the optical and luminescence spectra as well as the decay kinetics of Yb-doped aluminium perovskites and garnets is provided. Effect of intrinsic defects and possible occurrence of Yb2+ is discussed and possible application areas are briefly mentioned.
