A new estimation method of both the dynamic change in gasification rate with increased conversion in the fluidized bed gasifier and its initial rate was developed for chars generated under the condition close to the fluidized bed gasifier. The experimentally obtained gasification rates of chars by carbon dioxide and steam were compared with the values evaluated by the proposed method using only gasification temperature, pressure and carbon content in the parent coal. The correlation covers a broad range of test coals and about 95 % of the data taken under the condition pertinent to the atmospheric fluidized bed gasifier fell within ± 50% of the values predicted by the present equation.
