Changes in Zr coordination number during the pyrolysis of a SiO2ZrO2 gel

Zirconia-silica gels were prepared and their structures studied by EXAFS. From the ZrO distances, the coordination numbers were calculated. Heat treatment appears to cause the coordination number of the zirconium to increase.
