Category extraction of NOAA AVHRR images by using 3 dimensional histograms

Abstract

A new image processing method for the analysis of multispectral remote sensing data was developed. The method was applied to the sea category using 63 scenes of the N-Land data set in 1989 whole one year data, which were made of NOAA AVHRR data classified by the expert of oceanography researchers. The method was also tested to 20 N-Land scenes obtained in 1990 whole one year data by using the obtained knowledge, and compared with the expert's decision. The results showed more than 90% of recognition rate for almost all scenes.
