Catalytic conversion of biogas to biofuels - Tap studies

Abstract

The mechanism and kinetics of the conversion of biogas to synthesis gas (syngas) over a newly-developed mesoporous Ni/SiO2 catalyst and the syngas conversion over a Co/SiO2 catalyst were studied using TAP (Temporal Analysis of Products) reactor, a unique transient technique. Single-pulse, alternating pulse, and multipulse TAP experiments were performed under differing conditions. Important findings about diffusion within mesoporous catalysts, adsorption of reactant species at the surface of the two catalysts, reaction and desorption of reaction products along with the type of the intermediate species involved, were possible through a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the experimental TAP data. These results will be used to propose an optimal catalysts formulation.
