Buckling load analysis of the laminates with a pre-existing delamination were studied by using a finite element method based on the Mindlin plate theory. To obtain the physically possible buckling mode, some artificial springs were introduced into a contacting area. The formulations for calculating the stiffness parameters of these springs and iterative process for contact analysis were presented. The global structural stiffness matrix can be overcome effectively. The numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of method and importance of contact analysis. The effects of various sizes, shapes and positions of delamination and the fiber angle of delamination layer on buckling load were also investigated.
